Christ University, Bangalore was the brainchild of educational visionary St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and a social reformer of the 19th century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation.
The Christ University is governed by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) that was founded in the year 1831.
